What you’ll learn

  • Introduce yourself to a High Court judge chair in under ninety seconds with name, law college, practice or clerkship, and one honest reason for the bench
  • Explain a legal concept such as res judicata or the principles of bail in plain English in three sentences, then in the precise legal formulation
  • Apply the law to a hypothetical set of facts aloud in a fixed order: facts, issue, rule, application, conclusion
  • Answer temperament and ethics questions about pressure, influence and a lawyer parent with humility and a clear line
  • Discuss a recent legal development in a balanced way, stating what the court held, the competing view, and your own measured position
  • Answer in Hindi when a board member switches, and return to English cleanly when the chair does

This course is for

Law graduates facing a state judicial service interview (PCS-J, DJS). The judicial service interview is short, usually fifteen to thirty minutes, chaired by a sitting High Court judge, and it carries enough marks to change the merit list. The board already knows you can write; it wants to hear whether you can explain res judicata to a layman, apply bail principles to a hypothetical in the right order, speak about pressure and ethics without bravado, discuss a recent judgment with balance, and switch to Hindi when a member does. This course drills each of those as a spoken skill with a board that interrupts, ending in a full twelve-minute judicial-service board.
