What you’ll learn
- Make requests at the right level of politeness with can, could, may and would you mind, matching the person you are talking to
- Give advice and state rules with should, must, have to and don't have to, without confusing the three
- Soften wants and offers with would like, would prefer and would you like, instead of I want
- Build questions in the right order with do, does and did and the question word first, instead of Hindi word order with rising voice
- Use tag questions and short answers naturally: you're from Patna, aren't you? Yes, I am
- Refuse, disagree and push back politely with a senior, giving a reason and an alternative
Skills you’ll practise
This course is for
Working learners who sound blunt or unsure when they ask, advise or refuse. Hindi politeness lives in aap and ji; English politeness lives in small words like could, would and I'm afraid. Without them a Hindi speaker sounds blunt (give me the file) or builds questions the Hindi way (where you live?). This course teaches requests with can, could and may, advice and rules with should, must and have to, softening with would, question word order with do, does and did, tag questions and short answers, and polite refusals and disagreements. The capstone is a full conversation with a senior: asking for leave, questioning a deadline and declining extra work, politely.
level
You can hold a basic conversation but hesitate, translate in your head, or freeze under pressure. We fix that.
