What this interview looks like

A State PSC interview is a board of a Commission member in the chair with two to four expert members, lasting 20 to 30 minutes. It carries between about 5 and 13 percent of the final merit depending on the state: 100 of 1600 marks at UPPSC, 120 of 1020 at BPSC, 275 of 2025 under MPSC's new descriptive pattern, 100 of 900 at RPSC, 75 of 675 at HPSC and 150 marks at UKPSC, and the exact figure follows each notification. Boards open from the detailed application: home district, education, work and hobbies. Members then probe state geography, economy, flagship schemes, current controversies and what a new SDM or BDO would do in a flood, a paper leak or a communal flare-up. Most boards interview in Hindi or English at the candidate's choice; MPSC boards expect comfort in Marathi. The ExamPilot mock compresses this into a 20-minute board: the chair opens from your profile, an expert member runs the state-knowledge and current-affairs round for your state, and a psychologist member poses administrative dilemmas and asks about your hobbies and motivation.

What to expect

5 rounds, one after another

A board led by a chairperson with members taking turns, mirroring the UPSC Personality Test. Opens from the candidate's DAF (home state, education, work, hobbies, optional subject), then a member probes current affairs and policy with a demand for balanced views, a member poses an administrative ethics dilemma, and a member explores hobbies, motivation and service preference. The board assesses personality, balance and judgement, not recall.

  5. Round 5

How scoring works

A report you can act on

  1. Every round is scored on the rubric

Each interviewer scores only the criteria their round covers. Weights add up to your overall score out of 100.

  2. Only what you actually said counts

Feedback quotes your own answers. Rounds you skip show as “Not assessed” rather than a zero.

  3. Communication is always measured

Fluency, clarity, confidence and structure are tracked across the whole interview, in any language.

  4. Pass mark, then a plan

You see the pass mark for this interview, your gaps, and the courses that close them fastest.
