IB ACIO Grade II / Executive — Tier-III Interview

The 100-mark Tier-III interview that decides who joins the Intelligence Bureau as an Assistant Central Intelligence Officer. A retired Joint Director chairs, a cyber-cell SP tests your grasp of internal security, cyber threats and criminal law, and a psychologist probes discretion and nerve, the way the real board does.

What this interview looks like

IB ACIO Grade II/Executive recruitment runs in three tiers: a 100-mark objective Tier-I, a 50-mark descriptive Tier-II of essay and English comprehension, and the Tier-III interview of 100 marks. Candidates are shortlisted for the interview at about five times the vacancies on their combined Tier-I and Tier-II score, subject to at least 33 percent in Tier-II, and the final merit list is drawn from the combined performance in all three tiers, followed by character and antecedent verification and a medical examination. The notification says the interview may include a psychometric or aptitude test. The board is typically three to four senior IB officers, often with a psychologist, for fifteen to twenty-five minutes. It opens on background and motivation, moves to the candidate's state and its security situation, internal security and intelligence concepts, cyber threats and basic criminal law, and then tests discretion, observation and composure through scenarios: a suspicious person, a source who asks for money, a politician who wants information. Hindi and English both appear. The ExamPilot mock compresses this into fourteen minutes with a chairperson, an external member and a psychologist and scores awareness, situational judgement, integrity and communication.

What to expect

5 rounds, one after another

A uniformed-service board compressed into 14 minutes: a senior officer chairs and opens on background, fitness and motivation; an external member tests working knowledge of criminal law, local policing and cyber crime in the candidate's chosen area; the chair then puts field situations on mobs, VIP duty, custody, corruption and communal tension; a board psychologist probes pressure and integrity; the chair closes. Real state police SI boards and the IB ACIO interview sit three to five members for 10 to 25 minutes, mix English with Hindi or the state language, and weigh presence of mind and integrity above textbook recall.

How scoring works

A report you can act on

  1. Every round is scored on the rubric

Each interviewer scores only the criteria their round covers. Weights add up to your overall score out of 100.

  2. Only what you actually said counts

Feedback quotes your own answers. Rounds you skip show as “Not assessed” rather than a zero.

  3. Communication is always measured

Fluency, clarity, confidence and structure are tracked across the whole interview, in any language.

  4. Pass mark, then a plan

You see the pass mark for this interview, your gaps, and the courses that close them fastest.
