What this interview looks like
After the online Prelims and Mains, every public-sector insurer calls shortlisted candidates to a panel interview at a zonal or regional office. The panel is usually three to five senior officers of the company, often including a retired zonal or general manager and an HR officer, and lasts fifteen to twenty-five minutes in English or Hindi. They start with your introduction and why insurance, then test insurance concepts at the level a new officer must know: types of policies, IRDAI and its recent rules, underwriting, claims, solvency and the company's own position in the market. Specialist-stream candidates (IT, legal, chartered accountant, actuarial) get questions from their stream, and every candidate gets one or two from their own graduation subject. LIC ADO boards lean heavily on field selling: recruiting agents, handling objections, persistency and ethics. The interview typically carries a modest share of the final merit alongside Mains, with a minimum qualifying score, so a clear, honest and well-informed twenty minutes decides your rank. The ExamPilot mock compresses this into a fifteen-minute panel of introduction, concept round, two situations and a motivation close, scored on the same four things a real board weighs.
How it is weighted
Final merit is Mains marks plus interview marks, with the interview carrying a smaller share and a minimum qualifying score; the exact split is published in each cycle's notification. Selected candidates serve a probationary apprenticeship before confirmation as Development Officer.
Who this is for
Graduates who have cleared the ADO Prelims and Mains, in the open-market category or as existing LIC employees and agents who meet the business criteria in the notification. The role is a field sales job: recruiting, training and leading a team of agents, with confirmation after apprenticeship depending on the business the team brings in.
The panel focuses on
- Whether you understand the ADO job is field selling and agent development, not a desk
- Recruiting and activating agents: where you will find them and how you will keep them productive
- Handling a prospect's objections and selling the right plan, not the biggest
- Persistency, renewal and ethics: no rebating, no mis-selling
- Comfort with Hindi or the local language and with travel in semi-urban and rural areas
- Your own degree and background, including why you want a target-driven role

What to expect
4 rounds · 15 minutes
An IBPS or SBI style board of senior bankers compressed into 15 minutes: introduction and background with the HR member, banking and financial awareness with a senior banker who also probes the candidate's own degree or specialisation, two branch situations on customers, fraud and targets, and a closing on mobility and long-term intent. The real board sits three to five members for 15 to 20 minutes, mixes Hindi and English freely, and scores out of 100 with a qualifying minimum.

Insurance Officer LIC ADO interview questions
Questions panels commonly ask in the Insurance Officer LIC ADO interview, with what a strong answer covers. Practise them aloud with the AI panel.
- Role understanding
An Apprentice Development Officer is a field sales job. Describe what your typical week will look like, and why you want that instead of a desk job.
What a strong answer covers
Recruiting and training agents, joint field visits, tracking business and renewals, organising meetings and travelling to semi-urban and rural areas, with genuine interest in sales, people and targets. Avoid imagining an office role or showing discomfort with targets.
- Agent development
Where would you find your first ten agents, and how would you keep them active after six months?
What a strong answer covers
Sources such as retired employees, homemakers, self-help group members and young graduates, followed by training, joint calls, recognition, regular reviews and support with leads. Retention is as important as recruitment. Avoid recruiting relatives only on paper or ignoring training.
- Objection handling
A prospect says insurance is a waste because his father never got anything back from a policy. How would you handle the objection?
What a strong answer covers
Listens, asks questions, explains the purpose of protection with a real-life example, compares term and savings plans honestly, and lets the prospect decide. Avoid arguing, ridiculing the past policy, or making promises about returns.
- Ethics
One of your agents offers part of his commission to customers to close sales quickly. What would you do?
What a strong answer covers
Recognises rebating as prohibited under insurance law, counsels the agent, stops the practice, reports as required and focuses on ethical selling and persistency. Avoid tolerating it because it boosts business.
- Persistency
Your agents' 13th-month persistency is falling. What does that number reveal about how policies were sold, and how would you fix it?
What a strong answer covers
Persistency is the share of policies still paying premiums; a weak 13th-month figure usually points to mis-selling, wrong premium size or poor follow-up. Fixes include needs-based selling, right-sized premiums, renewal reminders, auto-debit mandates and agent reviews tied to renewals. Avoid blaming customers or chasing only new business.
- Rural market
In a rural area, a farmer wants a policy but has irregular income. Which features and payment options would you consider?
What a strong answer covers
Affordable premiums, a payment mode such as yearly or half-yearly matched to harvest months, protection-focused plans or micro-insurance products, and a clear explanation in the local language of what happens if a premium is missed. Avoid selling a high-premium plan that is likely to lapse after the first bad season.
- Targets
Your branch target is behind by 30 percent with two months left. What would you do with your team?
What a strong answer covers
Analyses agent-wise and month-wise business, identifies warm prospects and lapsed policies for revival, plans joint calls and short campaigns around events such as salary days or harvests, and motivates agents with recognition, while refusing to compromise on ethical selling. Avoid pressurising agents into mis-selling or fake business.
- Communication
आप हिंदी में एक ग्राहक को समझाइए कि टर्म इंश्योरेंस क्यों ज़रूरी है?
What a strong answer covers
A simple Hindi explanation that term insurance gives a large cover at low cost so the family can manage if the earning member dies, using a relatable example such as children's education. Shows clarity and warmth. Avoid complicated terms, exaggerated fear tactics or promising returns from a pure term plan.
- Motivation
Why should LIC select you, given that your confirmation depends on business results?
What a strong answer covers
Evidence of sales or people skills, a local network, persistence through rejection, willingness to travel, and a realistic plan for recruiting and building business in the first year of apprenticeship. Shows you understand confirmation depends on results. Avoid unrealistic promises or having no plan beyond hard work.
