Sample questions

NVS PGT interview questions

Questions panels commonly ask in the NVS PGT interview, with what a strong answer covers. Practise them aloud with the AI panel.

  1. Subject depth

Many Navodaya students will be first-generation college applicants. How would you prepare a Class 12 Biology batch at a JNV for both the board exam and NEET?

    What a strong answer covers

A realistic plan: completing NCERT thoroughly because NEET draws heavily on it, weekly diagnostic tests, evening supervised-study slots for problem practice, peer groups, and guidance on application forms and counselling for families unfamiliar with the process. Avoid promising coaching-style crash courses or neglecting the board syllabus for entrance preparation.

  2. Migration scheme

Explain the Navodaya migration scheme and tell us what you, as a PGT, would do if a migrated student from Kerala struggles with Hindi in your class at a JNV in Bihar.

    What a strong answer covers

Correctly describes the scheme as an exchange of a share of students between Hindi and non-Hindi speaking regions for a year, usually at Class 9, to promote national integration. Practical support includes bilingual explanation, peer buddies and patience. Avoid confusing it with a transfer or calling it a punishment posting for students.

  3. Residential duties

You are the house master of a senior boys' house. At 10:30 at night you find two Class 12 students missing from the dormitory. Walk us through your actions.

    What a strong answer covers

Immediate, ordered actions: search the campus with the night staff, inform the Principal and the matron or warden on duty, check with friends discreetly, contact parents if not traced quickly, and record everything. Later, a calm inquiry and preventive steps. Avoid waiting till morning or handling it alone to avoid embarrassment.

  4. ICT

Your JNV has unreliable internet. How would you use ICT to teach Class 11 Computer Science or Physics anyway?

    What a strong answer covers

Offline-first methods: downloaded simulations and videos, offline IDEs, DIKSHA content saved in advance, projector-based demonstrations, and scheduling online work for times when connectivity is better. Shows awareness of the computer lab as a shared resource. Avoid saying ICT is impossible without internet or relying entirely on students' personal phones.

  5. Demo lesson

Teach the law of demand to Class 12 Economics students in five minutes using an example from a village haat.

    What a strong answer covers

A familiar hook such as vegetable prices at a weekly market, a simple demand schedule built with the class, the curve drawn and explained, exceptions mentioned briefly, and one question to check understanding. Avoid diving into formulas without a concrete example or forgetting to involve the listeners.

  6. Residential life

Navodaya Vidyalayas are fully residential and teachers are on campus round the clock. What do you expect will be hardest for you and your family about this life?

    What a strong answer covers

An honest view of reduced personal time, evening study duty, weekend activities, distance from towns and limited schooling options for one's own children, followed by how the candidate and family have planned for it. Avoid claiming nothing will be difficult, which sounds rehearsed, or appearing reluctant to live on campus.

  7. Remedial teaching

A Class 11 Mathematics student scored very well in Class 10 but now fails every unit test in calculus. How would you diagnose and fix the problem?

    What a strong answer covers

Checks prerequisites such as functions and algebraic manipulation, talks to the student about study habits and stress, uses error analysis on test papers, sets short targeted practice and tracks progress during supervised study. Considers homesickness or peer issues in a hostel. Avoid concluding that the student lacks aptitude for science.

  8. NEP 2020

How does NEP 2020's emphasis on critical thinking change the way you would teach Class 12 English literature?

    What a strong answer covers

Moving from summary and fixed notes to discussion, interpretation, comparing perspectives, writing personal responses and connecting texts to students' lives. Includes assessment that values reasoned argument. Avoid listing NEP features without showing a specific change in a lesson on a named chapter.

  9. Motivation

    आप जवाहर नवोदय विद्यालय में ही क्यों पढ़ाना चाहते हैं, जबकि आप किसी शहर के निजी स्कूल में अधिक आराम से रह सकते हैं?

    What a strong answer covers

A genuine motivation linked to rural talent and the Navodaya mission of quality education for children from villages, perhaps a personal connection, and acceptance of residential duties. Answer in fluent Hindi if asked in Hindi. Avoid citing only job security and salary, or speaking negatively about private schools.

How scoring works

A report you can act on

  1. Every round is scored on the rubric

Each interviewer scores only the criteria their round covers. Weights add up to your overall score out of 100.

  2. Only what you actually said counts

Feedback quotes your own answers. Rounds you skip show as “Not assessed” rather than a zero.

  3. Communication is always measured

Fluency, clarity, confidence and structure are tracked across the whole interview, in any language.

  4. Pass mark, then a plan

You see the pass mark for this interview, your gaps, and the courses that close them fastest.
