Teaching interview preparation — KVS, NVS, DSSSB & more

Teacher recruitment in India takes several shapes. Central bodies such as Kendriya Vidyalaya Sangathan (KVS) and Navodaya Vidyalaya Samiti (NVS), Army Public Schools under AWES, and many private schools add an interview, a demo lesson or both after the written test. Others, including some state and Delhi recruitments, have relied on the written test alone in recent cycles, while the school-level interview, document check and probation still follow. Where there is an interview, it is usually a small panel: a chairperson, a subject expert and often a pedagogy or education expert. The subject expert checks depth in what you will teach, at the level you will teach it — a PGT Physics candidate may be asked to explain electromagnetic induction to Class 12 and then to a struggling student. The pedagogy questions cover lesson planning, assessment and remediation, classroom management, inclusive education, the National Education Policy 2020 and competency-based learning. The chairperson looks at your motivation, communication and how you would handle real situations: a disruptive student, a worried parent, a child who has stopped coming to school. For Navodaya and other residential schools, expect questions on hostel duties and living on campus.

Prepare by teaching aloud. Pick five topics from your syllabus and explain each in three minutes with an everyday example, a question to check understanding and a quick activity. Read the NEP 2020 sections on school education and be ready to connect them to your classroom. Keep two or three short stories from your teaching or training ready.
