What this interview looks like
L&T typically shortlists with an online test that combines aptitude with a technical section in the candidate's discipline, and some campuses add a group discussion.
Shortlisted candidates typically face a technical interview, taken by a senior engineer or project manager from the business that is hiring, that goes through core fundamentals, the final-year project and site-oriented scenarios on concrete, structures, fabrication, electrical systems or planning, followed by an HR interview on fitment, the GET programme, site postings anywhere in India or overseas and the training period.
In some drives the two are combined into one panel. Postgraduate engineer trainees and management trainees for planning, contracts and procurement typically get a domain discussion with a case or a numbers exercise.
Round counts, durations and the test pattern vary by business, campus and year, and any service agreement in the offer changes, so verify against the current drive communication. L&T panels are known for asking about willingness to live on a project site and for probing safety in every interview.
ExamPilot compresses the loop into a 17-minute panel: HR screen, a hiring-manager round with L&T-specific questions, a technical or domain round in your chosen profile, a short STAR behavioural round and a closing on expectations, scored on role knowledge, problem solving, communication and attitude.
How it is weighted
The interview decides and the domain round carries the most weight: panels want critical path and float explained aloud, a credible answer on a disputed bill or a slipping critical activity, and awareness of how an EPC project makes or loses money.
The hiring manager tests ownership and judgement from internships or projects, and HR tests willingness to be posted on a site. Here each round is scored against the corporate rubric (role knowledge 30, problem solving 25, communication 25, attitude 20).
Who this is for
Candidates who have cleared L&T's aptitude assessment and, in some campus drives, a group discussion or a case exercise, for trainee roles in project planning and control, contracts management, procurement and supply chain and project finance within L&T Construction and the energy businesses.
The interview typically pairs a project or planning head with an HR partner and includes a numbers or case discussion on schedules, claims, cash flow or procurement. Process pattern as of recent drives; check the current campus communication.
The panel focuses on
- Critical path, float and a look-ahead schedule explained aloud, and what a two-week slip does
- Contracts in plain words: variations, extensions of time, liquidated damages and documenting a claim
- Cash before profit: a bill certified late, cost-to-complete and an S-curve a project director would trust
- Procurement for a remote site: long-lead items, rate contracts and inventory on site
- Handling a public-sector client, a consultant's hold point and a slow subcontractor
- L&T's segments, a recent large order you know about, and site postings answered honestly
