What this interview looks like

2025-26 cycle (CBSE-conducted, joint with NVS): Tier-1 screening (300 marks, qualifying) → Tier-2 subject paper (100 marks) → Interview + demo lesson (100 marks), final merit Tier-2 : Interview = 85 : 15; interviews 18 Sep – 18 Oct 2026. 2022-23 cycle: Professional Competency Test of 60 marks (demo teaching 30 + interview 30) with 70:30 weightage. A 3-member panel (KVS principal/officer + subject expert + education expert) runs a 5–7 minute demo lesson on a given topic followed by a 10–20 minute interview covering subject depth, pedagogy, NEP 2020, classroom management, ICT, assessment, inclusive education and readiness for all-India transfers. Bilingual Hindi/English is the norm.

KVS PGT interview questions

Questions panels commonly ask in the KVS PGT interview, with what a strong answer covers. Practise them aloud with the AI panel.

  1. Demo lesson

You are a PGT Physics candidate. Teach us electromagnetic induction for Class 12 in five minutes, starting from something a student has seen at home.

    What a strong answer covers

A hook from daily life such as an induction cooktop or a bicycle dynamo, Faraday's and Lenz's laws stated clearly, one quick demonstration or diagram, and a check-for-understanding question before closing. Avoid lecturing derivations from the board for all five minutes without once asking the panel-as-students anything.

  2. Subject depth

A Class 11 Chemistry student says moles are pointless memorisation. How would you rebuild the concept so that the same student can solve stoichiometry problems for the board and for NEET?

    What a strong answer covers

Starting from counting by mass with a concrete analogy, linking molar mass to the periodic table, then graded problems from simple ratios to limiting reagent. A strong answer mentions diagnosing the exact misconception first. Avoid simply promising extra worksheets or more practice without explaining how understanding is built.

  3. Assessment

CBSE now puts competency-based questions in the Class 12 board paper. Frame one such question in your subject and tell us what makes it competency-based rather than recall.

    What a strong answer covers

An actual question set in a real-life or data context, such as a case passage in Economics or an experimental table in Biology, that needs application or analysis. The candidate explains which skill it tests and how to mark partial reasoning. Avoid offering a textbook question with a story pasted on top.

  4. NEP 2020

NEP 2020 speaks of flexibility in subject choice at the secondary stage. A student wants Physics with History in Class 11. How would you counsel the student and the parents?

    What a strong answer covers

Shows awareness that NEP removes hard separation between streams and that schools offer combinations within their capacity, then explores the student's goals, college entrance requirements and workload honestly. Involves the Principal on what the Vidyalaya can timetable. Avoid dismissing the choice outright or promising a combination the school may not offer.

  5. ICT

As a PGT Computer Science teacher you have a lab with half the computers working on exam week. How do you still complete Class 12 practical work fairly?

    What a strong answer covers

Practical steps: rotating groups, paired programming, dry-running code on paper, reporting the fault in writing to the Principal and the vendor, and using the Vidyalaya's ICT resources or DIKSHA content meanwhile. Fairness in practical marking is protected. Avoid blaming the administration or reducing practicals to viva only.

  6. KVS ethos

Kendriya Vidyalaya students often join mid-session after a parent's transfer from another KV. How would you settle a Class 12 Commerce student who arrives in October having covered a different chapter sequence?

    What a strong answer covers

A quick diagnostic of what was covered, a short catch-up plan with specific chapters such as partnership accounts, peer buddy support, and checking the internal-assessment and practical records from the previous Vidyalaya. Mentions the emotional side of moving schools. Avoid assuming the student will simply catch up on their own.

  7. Transfers

Your transfer order sends you to a Kendriya Vidyalaya on an island or in a hill district far from home. What does all-India service mean to you in practice?

    What a strong answer covers

Genuine readiness for all-India transfers: learning about the local community and language, understanding the student mix of central employees' children, taking up house and co-curricular duties, and connecting with colleagues. Mentions family arrangements realistically. Avoid saying you will request a transfer back home as soon as possible.

  8. Inclusive education

A Class 11 student with dyslexia cannot write long answers in English within time. How would you teach and assess this student without lowering the bar for learning?

    What a strong answer covers

Inclusive practice: talking to parents and the counsellor, oral explanation and visual organisers, extra time and scribe support as per CBSE provisions for candidates with disabilities, and assessing understanding rather than handwriting. Avoid treating the child as careless or quietly expecting less learning from the child.

  9. Pedagogy

How would you take Class 12 History students through the causes of the Revolt of 1857 so they weigh evidence from contemporary sources instead of reciting a list?

    What a strong answer covers

Uses primary sources such as a proclamation or a contemporary account, groups students to examine differing perspectives, and asks them to weigh causes with evidence. Connects to the NCERT Themes in Indian History approach. Avoid presenting a single fixed list of causes for rote learning or turning it into a one-sided narrative.

How scoring works

A report you can act on

  1. Every round is scored on the rubric

Each interviewer scores only the criteria their round covers. Weights add up to your overall score out of 100.

  2. Only what you actually said counts

Feedback quotes your own answers. Rounds you skip show as “Not assessed” rather than a zero.

  3. Communication is always measured

Fluency, clarity, confidence and structure are tracked across the whole interview, in any language.

  4. Pass mark, then a plan

You see the pass mark for this interview, your gaps, and the courses that close them fastest.
