What this interview looks like
2025-26 cycle (CBSE-conducted, joint with NVS): Tier-1 screening (300 marks, qualifying) → Tier-2 subject paper (100 marks) → Interview + demo lesson (100 marks), final merit Tier-2 : Interview = 85 : 15; interviews 18 Sep – 18 Oct 2026. 2022-23 cycle: Professional Competency Test of 60 marks (demo teaching 30 + interview 30) with 70:30 weightage. A 3-member panel (KVS principal/officer + subject expert + education expert) runs a 5–7 minute demo lesson on a given topic followed by a 10–20 minute interview covering subject depth, pedagogy, NEP 2020, classroom management, ICT, assessment, inclusive education and readiness for all-India transfers. Bilingual Hindi/English is the norm.
How it is weighted
2025-26: Interview + demo lesson 100 marks, 15% of final merit (Tier-2 85%). 2022-23: PCT 60 marks = demo teaching 30 + interview 30, weighted 30% against 70% written.
Who this is for
Bachelor's degree with the subject (at least 50%) and B.Ed, or 4-year integrated B.A.B.Ed/B.Sc.B.Ed; CTET Paper II mandatory; age up to 35; proficiency in Hindi and English. Special Educator (TGT grade): graduate with B.Ed Special Education, or B.Ed with an RCI-recognised diploma/PG diploma in Special Education, and a valid RCI (CRR) registration; CTET is typically required for a TGT-grade post. KVS sanctioned 493 Special Educator (TGT grade) and 494 (PRT grade) regular posts in January 2026 after Delhi High Court directions; until regular recruitment is completed, KVs engage RCI-qualified special educators on contract through walk-in interviews at the school, so the exact Special Educator selection pattern (written test vs. interview-only) should be checked against the current notification.

Sample questions
KVS TGT interview questions
Questions panels commonly ask in the KVS TGT interview, with what a strong answer covers. Practise them aloud with the AI panel.
- Demo lesson
Teach the concept of fractions as parts of a whole to Class 6 using only things available in a classroom, in about five minutes.
What a strong answer covers
A concrete start with folded paper, a chapati drawing or a set of pencils, moving from objects to pictures to symbols, with students coming up to show equivalent fractions. Ends with a quick question to check learning. Avoid starting directly with numerator and denominator definitions on the board.
- Experiential learning
A Class 8 Science lesson on combustion is coming up. Which activity would you conduct, and how would you keep thirty-five students safe while doing it?
What a strong answer covers
A specific activity such as the candle-under-glass experiment, clear safety rules, teacher-led demonstration for anything risky, roles within groups, and questions that link observation to the zones of a flame and conditions for combustion. Avoid an activity with no learning question attached or one that hands open flames to every student.
- Assessment
You are checking Class 7 English notebooks and find that half the class has copied the same answers from a guidebook. What do you do next?
What a strong answer covers
Treats it as a teaching problem: speaks to the class without public shaming, redesigns tasks to need personal responses, models how to write in one's own words, and informs parents where needed. Notebook feedback becomes specific comments. Avoid simply giving zero marks to everyone or ignoring it to finish the syllabus.
- Child psychology
A Class 9 student who was cheerful last term has stopped talking in class and her marks have dropped sharply. How would you handle it as her subject teacher?
What a strong answer covers
Quiet observation, a private and gentle conversation, informing the class teacher and the school counsellor, contacting parents sensitively, and being alert to bullying or safety concerns that must be reported under the school's child-protection procedure. Avoid confronting her in front of others or assuming it is only a study problem.
- NEP 2020
NEP 2020 describes Classes 6 to 8 as the middle stage. What changes in how you would teach Social Studies to this stage compared with the old approach?
What a strong answer covers
Experiential and inquiry-based learning, connecting history, geography and civics themes, local projects and field visits, fewer facts and more concepts, and assessment for learning. A strong answer gives one concrete example, such as mapping the neighbourhood. Avoid reciting the 5+3+3+4 structure without saying what changes in the classroom.
- Subject depth
As a TGT Sanskrit teacher, how would you make Class 6 students who have never studied Sanskrit enjoy their first month of the subject?
What a strong answer covers
Spoken Sanskrit through greetings and classroom commands, shlokas and simple stories, words they already know from Hindi and other Indian languages, games for vocabulary and short dialogues before grammar tables. Avoid starting with dhatu-roop and shabd-roop memorisation in the first week.
- Differentiation
You have a Class 10 Mathematics section where some students are aiming for full marks and others are struggling to pass. How do you plan a week for both groups?
What a strong answer covers
Differentiated tasks graded by difficulty, peer tutoring, short remedial periods for basic skills such as linear equations, extension problems for faster students, and frequent low-stakes checks. Mentions monitoring progress and talking to parents of struggling students. Avoid teaching only to the middle or labelling students publicly as weak.
- Inclusive education
As a Special Educator in a Kendriya Vidyalaya, a TGT Science teacher asks you to help a child with autism who becomes distressed during lab periods. What support would you plan?
What a strong answer covers
Understanding the child's triggers through observation and parents, preparing the child with a visual schedule, reducing sensory overload, assigning a predictable role in the lab and coaching the subject teacher on simple adaptations. Records progress in an individualised plan. Avoid suggesting the child simply be kept out of practical periods.
- Pedagogy
As a Hindi TGT, after reading a story with Class 7, how would you get students to produce original creative writing in Hindi rather than copy model answers?
What a strong answer covers
Reading aloud with expression, discussing characters and alternative endings, then tasks such as rewriting a scene or a character's diary entry, with feedback on ideas before grammar. Expect the panel to switch to Hindi, so answer fluently in it. Avoid limiting the lesson to word meanings and copied question-answers.

How scoring works
A report you can act on
Every round is scored on the rubric
Each interviewer scores only the criteria their round covers. Weights add up to your overall score out of 100.
Only what you actually said counts
Feedback quotes your own answers. Rounds you skip show as “Not assessed” rather than a zero.
Communication is always measured
Fluency, clarity, confidence and structure are tracked across the whole interview, in any language.
Pass mark, then a plan
